Dr. Julie Posselt
Professor of Education
Rossier School of Education, University of Southern California
Dr. Julie Posselt is a professor of higher education in the USC Rossier School of Education and was a 2015-2017 National Academy of Education/ Spencer Foundation postdoctoral research fellow. Rooted in sociological and organizational theory, her research program examines institutionalized inequalities in higher education and organizational efforts aimed at reducing inequities and encouraging diversity. She focuses on selective sectors of higher education — graduate education, STEM fields, and elite undergraduate institutions — where longstanding practices and cultural norms are being negotiated to better identify talent and educate students in a changing society.

Dr. Fahim Quadir President of CAGS Vice-Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, Queen's University As Vice-Provost and Dean, Dr. Quadir embraces innovative thinking as the basis for advancing both the long and short-term goals of graduate education at Queen’s University. Prior to joining Queen’s, Dr. Quadir served as Interim Dean and Associate Vice-President Graduate in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at York University, where he was a Professor of Development Studies. From July 2013 to May 2017, he held the position of an Associate Dean in the Faculty of Graduate Studies. He is the founding director of York University’s Graduate Program in Development Studies and its undergraduate program in International Development Studies. Previously, he held academic positions at St. Lawrence University in New York, Queen’s University at Kingston and the University of Chittagong in Bangladesh. He also taught at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Professor Quadir specializes in International Development, International Relations and International Political Economy. He has edited/co-edited five books and published extensively in various international peer reviewed journals relating to South-South cooperation, emerging donors, aid effectiveness, good governance, civil society, democratic consolidation, transnational social movements, human security and regional development. |
Dr. Jeffrey M. Casello Professor and Former Associate-Vice President, Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs University of Waterloo As a professor, Jeff’s interests lie in urban transportation systems and their impacts on healthy and economically viable urban areas. His teaching and research engage students in applied learning that has improved transportation systems in throughout Canada and internationally. As an administrator, Jeff has been active in university leadership since 2010 when he was invited to serve as the Associate Dean Undergraduate Studies in the Faculty of Environment. In that capacity, Jeff oversaw all facets of undergraduate programming and student experience. Between 2016 and 2024, Professor Casello led the University of Waterloo’s graduate studies and postdoctoral portfolios, supporting over 200 graduate programs, 6,000 graduate students and 400 postdoctoral scholars. During this period, the university made substantial advancements in its graduate regulations, funding structures, and the overarching culture in administration. External to the university, Jeff served as the Chair of the Ontario Council on Graduate Studies and currently leads the Board of Directors at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. |

Dr. Malvina Klag Independent Consultant on Systems Change and Social Innovation A seasoned executive, strategist, and researcher, Malvina Klag has held leadership, consulting and facilitation roles across private, public and community sectors in Canada. Clients and employers include organizations ranging from small start-ups to large local, Canadian and multi-national organizations in health and social services. Key achievements lie in the areas of: 1) strategic planning and capacity-building in complex settings; 2) the structuring of major change; 3) multi-sectoral stakeholder mobilization; and 4) social innovation to effect sustained health and social systems advancement. Malvina holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behaviour from McGill University. In addition to her consulting work, she is a Research Affiliate at the J.W. Burns Leadership Institute, I.H. Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba. Research interests centre around strategic planning, organizational change and systemic change in complex and pluralistic settings. Her work has appeared in practice-based, educational, and academic journals. | Dr. Lori Mac Counselling Psychologist, Student Counselling Centre University of Manitoba Dr. Lori Mac is a registered Counselling Psychologist and Senior Instructor who has been with the University of Manitoba Student Counselling Centre since 2008. She is a generalist, but works in the areas of interpersonal relationships (building healthy relationships, interpersonal difficulties, break-ups), communication and conflict, and trauma (single-event, developmental, complex) as particular areas of interest. In addition to providing personal, career, group, and couples counselling as well as workshops and outreach, she is also the Coordinator for the Advanced Practicum in Counselling, and the Assistant Director of Training and one of the primary supervisors for the Predoctoral Residency Program in Professional Psychology. |

David Ness, Ph.D. Director, Student Counselling Centre University of Manitoba David is the Director of Student Counselling and Wellness at the University of Manitoba and has been on staff since 1991. His training background is clinical psychology and in addition to his administrative duties, he provides counselling and therapy to students using an integrative approach that emphasizes cognitive, developmental, client-centred and insight-oriented approaches. David uses these approaches to work with students presenting with anxiety, relationship, trauma recovery, family conflict, and career indecision and other difficulties. He also enjoys facilitating groups and workshops and delivering programming across campus at the University of Manitoba. |
Michelle Pearson Student Counsellor, Student Counselling Centre University of Manitoba Michelle has worked as a Counsellor at the University of Manitoba’s Student Counselling and Health and Wellness Centre for the past nine years. She is the embedded counsellor for graduate studies and strives to support students, staff, faculty and leaders to navigate the unique challenges that can arise in graduate studies programs. Previous to joining the University of Manitoba she spent 20 years as a therapist, senior manager and in various leadership roles in community health and health care settings. Michelle’s background in clinical psychology, community care, somatic abolitionism and antiracist practices provide her with a unique set of skills that honour a two-eyed seeing approach to care. As a certified mediator, she has assisted many individuals, couples, families and teams explore the need for healthy boundaries and assertive communication. Michelle’s interests include personal identity work, change, transition and loss, healing from racialized trauma, building strength and resiliency for individuals and communities and antiracism work. |

Dr. Robin Hicks Dean of Graduate Studies University of Victoria Dr. Robin Hicks has been a faculty member in the Chemistry Department at the University of Victoria for 29 years. He has a B.Sc. from Dalhousie University and a Ph.D. from the University of Guelph. He has held a number of academic leadership roles at UVic, including Associate Dean and Acting Dean in the Faculty of Science, and Associate Vice-President Academic Programs. Since 2021 he has held the position of Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies at UVic, which includes 3,000 graduate students enrolled in over 160 unique research-based and professional programs. |
Dr. Aziz Douai Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research University of Regina Dr. Aziz Douai is Dean of The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) at the University of Regina, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies since 2022. Dr. Douai has led the development and implementation of several student-centered initiatives to promote graduate student success through curricular and cocurricular programming, stronger funding for graduate students, and expanding career-readiness training and professional development opportunities. Dr. Douai is the founder of the Graduate Advanced Training and Entrepreneurship (GATE) Centre to support graduate student innovation and entrepreneurship. |

Dr. Kelley Main Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies University of Manitoba Dr. Kelley Main started her career at the University of Manitoba in 2007. She received a BA (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Winnipeg, a MA in Psychology from the University of Manitoba and a PhD in Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing from the University of British Columbia. She was at the Schulich School of Business at York University for 3 years prior to joining the Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Main’s prior administrative service includes being the Head of the Marketing Department and Associate Dean of Research and Graduate programs at the Asper School of Business in addition to being an Associate Dean and Acting Dean in the Faculty of Graduate Studies prior to becoming Dean. |
